Liveaboard training experiences designed to help sailors build the experience and confidence to charter independently.
Adventure Learning Experiences are designed to help sailors build the experience and confidence required to progress through the Bareboat Coastal Skipper and Offshore Skipper pathways. These liveaboard training experiences combine real-world cruising, hands-on instruction, and progressive responsibility aboard full-sized cruising yachts. Rather than simply observing, sailors actively participate as Skipper, Navigator, Helmsman, and Crew while building practical experience underway.
Whether anchored in a harbor, planning a passage, standing watch underway, or managing a crew, sailors develop the judgment, decision-making, and seamanship skills required to operate cruising sailboats safely and confidently. Training focuses on real-world situations that sailors encounter while chartering and cruising independently.
Depending on the destination and training objectives, sailors may gain experience with passage planning, practical navigation, anchoring, mooring, docking, crew overboard recovery, overnight sailing, weather awareness, and liveaboard cruising systems. Every experience is designed to provide meaningful opportunities to build confidence through repetition and real-world responsibility.
Outbound Sailing instructors bring thousands of miles of cruising, chartering, and passagemaking experience to every Adventure Learning Experience. Beyond formal instruction, sailors gain valuable insight into boat ownership, chartering, passage planning, provisioning, weather decision-making, and the countless lessons that only come from real-world experience on the water.
Adventure Learning Experiences are intended for sailors pursuing the Bareboat Coastal Skipper or Offshore Skipper pathways. At a minimum, sailors should have completed ASA 101 and ASA 103 or possess equivalent experience before participating. Depending on the specific trip, destination, and individual goals, sailors may have opportunities to earn ASA certifications along the way. However, the primary objective is building the experience, judgment, and confidence required to cruise independently.
Adventure Learning Experiences take place aboard modern cruising monohulls and catamarans ranging from approximately 40 to 50 feet in length. Training is conducted on the same types of vessels sailors commonly charter around the world, providing experience that directly translates to future bareboat chartering and cruising opportunities.
While training remains the primary focus, Adventure Learning Experiences take place in some of the world’s most spectacular cruising destinations. Past adventures have included the Virgin Islands, Bahamas, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Greece, and beyond. Along the way, sailors experience not only exceptional training opportunities, but also the unique anchorages, cultures, and natural beauty that make cruising such a rewarding pursuit.
