St Lucia, St Vincent & Grenadines – Nov 2017

                           Our Cruising Grounds

Our Nov 2017 Caribbean Adventure Learning course was another amazing trip. This time we went to the Windward Islands, sailing out of Rodney Bay in St Lucia. After anchoring by the Pitons (where some of Master and Commander was filmed) and Soufriere, we crossed the St Vincent channel and cleared in at Blue Lagoon. Crossing the St Vincent challenge is almost always an exciting part of the Windward Islands route. Nothing between you and Africa, so you usually have some “nice” winds. The Blue Lagoon is one of the most enchanting places in St Vincent and the Grenadines. Check out the photo below.

Overall, we had great wind, and some challenging navigation work, but the students all did extraordinarily well – and they knew it! Such a confidence booster. There were students taking just 104 (Bareboat Cruising), others taking both 104 and 114 (the Cruising Catamaran Course), and a couple doing 106 (the Advanced Coastal Cruising course).

There was a lot of work both studying and mastering various skills required for the courses undertaken. Outside of the curriculum we did Man Overboard at sea while sailing offshore, and picking up moorings under sail – one time with only one engine working. Now that was a challenge.

No doubt, this was one of our best Carib trips. The weather, the wind, the amazing sailing, and the tremendous opportunities for each of the students to learn to do things that they might not have even read about. Gotta come back here!
